Nathan Holman secured his first professional victory on home soil after coming out on top in the play-off to win the Australian PGA Championship.

Meanwhile, Paul Dunne finished with a somewhat disappointing 76 to finish tied-44th on 10 over par.

The 22-year-old Greystones golfer pocketed €4,380 in his first finish as a full European Tour member.

But it was 24-year-old Holman who got the better of Dylan Frittelli and Harold Varner III to claim glory on the Gold Coast.

Holman was leading by two shots with two play but he bogeyed each of the last two holes to finish on level par.

He went long through the back of the green at the 17th and then dropped his approach short at the last to let the field back in.

South African Frittelli and American Varner III couldn’t find a birdie to edge to victory sending the trio into a play-off.

Frittelli and Varner III then both missed the green on the first extra hole and Holman bagged his maiden title with a par.

Holman started the day trailing by two shots and had the worst possible start when he double bogeyed the opening hole.

But birdies at the ninth, 12th and 15th was enough to get him back into the event and that final-round 73 was enough to take him to sudden death.
