Gormanston College 2-9 St Benildus 1-7:Gormanston produced a late spurt in yesterday's Leinster Colleges A senior football championship round two clash at the St Benildus grounds in Stillorgan.

Although Seán O'Connor had kicked over an early free for the home side, Gormanston then rocked their opponents with an eighth-minute goal from Ruairi Moore.

And while Kevin Whyte was to add another point for the Meath college, it was to be their last of the half.

O'Connor countered with two frees before Brian Hanamy drove home his shot. Points from O'Connor (two) and sub Matthew Kinsella left it 1-5 to 1-1 at the interval.

Gormanston began the second half with back-to-back scores from Mark Battersby. However, Benildus restored their four-point cushion with points from Hanamy and O'Connor.

But from the 45th minute on Gormanston held their opponents scoreless and seized the advantage with Battersby sending over his fourth successive free of the half to level the game with four minutes to go.

Points from David Ryan and Moore were followed by Philip Duff's close-range killer strike.

 St Peter's, Wexford 5-9 Carlow CBS 3-7

St Peter's College, Wexford booked a quarter-final spot with a flattering eight-point victory over Carlow CBS in their Leinster Colleges 'A' senior football championship game at Power Park yesterday.

Carlow CBS had the ideal start with a goal from full forward Darrel Hayden inside the opening minute and they went on to lead 1-2 to 0-0 after eight minutes.

But St Peter's responded and showed they were up for the challenge with goals from Ciarán Redmond and Séamus O'Sullivan which helped them to a 2-3 top 1-4 interval lead.

Eleven minutes into the second half St Peter's had their third goal, this time courtesy of James Boggan, after which they went on to build a 3-8 to 1-6 lead by the end of the third-quarter.

Carlow CBS put in a storming closing 10 minutes, as two goals from full forward Hayden left just two points separating the sides, 3-6 to 3-8, with six minutes remaining.

However, St Peter's regained their composure and finished the stronger with two late goals from a Mark Fanning 40-metre free and Redmond.
