A late flourish by Finn Harps wasn't enough to deny the home side in this five-goal encounter at Belfield yesterday.

A mere three minutes had passed before the students opened the scoring when Ciaran Martyn supplied John Martin inside the box and the midfielder delivered a low shot beyond Gareth Downey in the Harps goal.

Slack marking from a corner kick then allowed the unmarked Clive Delaney to extend UCD's lead after nine minutes and Brian Mooney delivered the third blow for the Donegalmen with a back header shortly after the hour.

But Finn Harps fought back with Alex Nesovic volleying at the far post with 17 minutes remaining.
