GOLF:Pádraig Harrington looked to have done just enough to make the cut at the Buick Invitational after he shot a two-over-par 74 in his second round at Torrey Pines in San Diego.
That left the Dubliner on one-over for the tournament, a shot inside the projected cut. Playing the more difficult South Course, Harrington got off to a poor start with a bogey at the short 11th, his second hole of the day. A further shot would go at the par-five 13th as he moved to one-over for the tournament.
Eight straight pars followed before another bogey at the fourth put him in danger of missing the weekend action. He showed his resilience with back-to-back birdies at the fifth and sixth to get back to level, but would give another shot back to the course at the short eighth before signing for a 74.
That left Harrington 12 strokes behind early clubhouse leader Camilo Villegas, the Colombian adding a two-under 70 to his opening 63 to move to 11-under.
Playing alongside Harrington, Villegas carded three birdies and a bogey in his round to move four shots clear of Charley Hoffman, who carded a 66 on the easier North Course.
