Galway Utd 0 UCD 0:Galway United and a resilient UCD shared the spoils last night. The home side's penchant for delivering neat displays at Terryland Park has still to result in a win at their ground this season.
Manager Tony Cousins is eager to end this sequence and Galway were industrious early on. The search for a win lingers on, but Galway carved a raft of gilt-edged opportunities to claim the full complement here.
With Alan Murphy pulling the midfield strings in the first half, Galway, who were backed by a strong wind, carved a flurry of opportunities. Murphy's delivery released Derek O'Brien in the eighth minute, but the winger's shot was gathered by UCD goalkeeper Matt Gregg.
Galway continued to boss the first half, with striker Stephen O'Flynn twice going close, but UCD weren't short of confidence having stitched an eight-match unbeaten sequence together.
Galway's Ciarán Foley also examined Gregg's reflexes as Cousins's charges poured forward in search of the opening goal.
Just before half-time John Russell and O'Flynn fashioned an opportunity for Murphy, who was denied by Gregg.
It was a similar story after the interval as Gregg clawed an O'Flynn header to safety. Pete Mahon's charges might even have nicked it themselves, but Galway substitute Liam McKenna cleared a Conor Sammon effort off the line.
