National League Premier Division/ Sligo Rovers 1 Bohemians 0: Adam Hughes - with his fourth goal in eight games - was the hero as Sligo Rovers recorded a third straight league win, at the Showgrounds on Saturday night.

The Australian struck six minutes from time after Bohemians goalkeeper Stephen O'Brien parried Harpal Singh's free-kick after substitute Paul McTiernan was hauled down just outside the box.

The victory saw Sean Connor's side regain fourth position in the Premier Division table from Cork City, whom they play at the Showgrounds tomorrow night.

Bohemians, who also lost on their previous visit to the Showgrounds in March, took the game to Connor's men from the start and deserved something from the match. Coach Alan Caffrey said his team "didn't deserve to lose". It was hard to disagree with him.

Connor, meanwhile, praised his players for showing "great resolve and determination against a side that made it very difficult for us".

Bohemians' best chance came on 39 minutes when Aidan O'Keefe, who was a constant threat up front, produced a fine strike on goal but Sligo goalkeeper John O'Hara responded with a superb one-handed save.

Darren Mansaram saw his shot come back off the woodwork at the start of the second half as the home side stepped up a gear.

Bohemians' substitute Stephen Ward then struck the home team's crossbar with a shot on 76 minutes, with O'Hara beaten.
