William Haggas got out of jail at Yarmouth yesterday, and immediately landed himself in trouble

William Haggas got out of jail at Yarmouth yesterday, and immediately landed himself in trouble. The Newmarket trainer enjoyed his first visit to the winner's enclosure this year when Shocker landed the Applegate Fillies' Handicap and he was immediately asked to visit the stewards' room. It ended with the performances of Shocker, never better than sixth in four previous runs and banned for 30 days under Rule 151 at Southwell last year, being referred to the Jockey Club. Shocker, who eased from 8 to 1 to 10 to 1, hit the front over two furlongs out under Jason Tate and from there had matters under control to beat the favourite Margone by a comfortable two lengths. Haggas, summoned by the officials almost as soon as Tate's feet touched the ground in the winner's circle, joked: "That's been the plan for two years!"

Ante-post punters were warned yesterday that Sheltering Sky is not certain to run in next month's Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot. The John Dunlop-trained colt headed bookmakers' opening show of betting on the Royal Ascot sprint - best priced at 12 to 1 with Ladbrokes - after he was handed 9st 5lb when the weights were published yesterday. He caught many an eye when an unlucky-in-running second to World Premier at York a fortnight ago and holds an entry in a Listed race at Lingfield this Saturday.

Jimmy Quinn rode a 104 to 1 double at Folkestone yesterday on Moon Buzzard and Quite Happy. The Newmarket-based jockey set his brace up with a 20 to 1 victory on Moon Buzzard, trained by Michael Blanshard at Lambourn. The partnership led after a furlong and a half and won by a neck and a head in a close finish for the Westenhanger Maiden Stakes from Jade Tiger and Redouble. Quinn struck again in the following Glanmoor Investment Challenge Cup Fillies Handicap on Quite Happy (4 to 1), trained by Dr Jon Scargill, but had to wait a nail-biting 10 minutes for the photograph to show that his mount held Runs In The Family by a short head.

Declan Murphy will partner Desert Orchid on the middle day of the World of Racing Exhibition, which takes place at York racecourse on May 29th, 30th and 31st.
