Padraig Harrington and Darren Clarke both made inauspicious starts to their campaigns at the Tour Travelers Championship in Connecticut this evening, carding rounds of one-over and two-over respectively.

Harrington, who missed the cut at last week's US Open, was two-under at the turn but three bogeys on the way home saw him slip down the leaderboard.

Clarke, with six missed cuts on the trot, is in danger of extending that unwelcome run as his round of 72 leaves him down in 108th spot in the 150-man field.

America's Hunter Mahan holds the clubhouse lead on eight-under, two ahead of compatriots Kenny Perry and Chris DiMarco. Carl Pettersson is the best placed European on five-under.
