Irish player of the week - Niall Quinn

"He absolutely destroyed Desailly," swooned Alan Hansen on Match of the Day on Saturday night

"He absolutely destroyed Desailly," swooned Alan Hansen on Match of the Day on Saturday night. Who did? None other than Sunderland's Niall Quinn who had a storming game against Chelsea, scoring twice and making one of Kevin Phillips' two goals in a 4-1 win.

Granted it took him a while to make an impact on the game - he didn't score until the 44th second - but from there on in he produced a display that had the crowd singing their old favourite, "Niall Quinn - You Sexy Thing". And just to top off his week he was named the club's player of the month by the Sunderland Echo.

A special mention too for Graham Barrett, who's attempting to follow in Quinn's large footsteps at Highbury - the Irish under-21 international made his competitive first team debut, coming on as a last minute substitute in Arsenal's 3-0 win at Leicester on Saturday morning.
