SOCCER: Roy Keane will remain in Manchester today in order to receive treatment for the dead leg he sustained during Saturday's FA Cup final.

The Manchester United captain is then, however, expected to join up with the Republic of Ireland squad, probably tomorrow morning, for Thursday night's friendly international against Romania at Lansdowne Road.

It seemed in the immediate aftermath of United's defeat of Millwall in Cardiff that the midfielder's international return would be delayed until after the summer but the Corkman told reporters afterwards that he still intends to report for the Romania game.

It is expected, meanwhile, that Liverpool will announce today that Gerard Houllier has left the club. The Frenchman is believed to have been told yesterday by club chairman David Moores that his contract was being terminated a year before it expires.

The club has reportedly a shortlist of possible replacements which includes Charlton's Alan Curbishley, Steve McClaren of Middlesbrough, Valencia's Rafel Benitez and former Southampton boss Gordon Strachan.

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill is apparently not among the club's targets.
