GAELIC GAMES/Kildare 2-27 Dundalk IT 0-5: Kildare ran riot in a one-sided O'Byrne Cup tie at Newbridge yesterday and had the most comfortable of wins.
Kildare were never under pressure as they took a break from training to record a 28-point winning margin over poor opposition.
They fielded a fairly strong side and raced into an early lead when top scorer John O'Donoghue landed the first of his eight points after a minute of action.
There were further scores from Tadhg Fennin and O'Donoghue before full forward Ronan Sweeney slotted home a goal from close range in the 56th minute.
Dundalk IT, who host the Sigerson Cup competition early next year, made little impression and their first score arrived in the 18th minute when their best attacker on show, Derek Crilly, converted a free.
Crilly added another free later in the half but Kildare hit four scores without reply to lead by 1-12 to 0-2 at half-time.
Kildare took up where they left off on the resumption and they had three more points on the scoreboard before Crilly scored again with a fine effort from play in the 43rd.
Brian Farrell added a late point for the visitors but Kildare got the last five scores of the game, including a late Pádraig Donnelly goal.
