GAELIC GAMES CHAMPIONSHIP 2009 NEWS:KILDARE MANAGER Kieran McGeeney has named an unchanged side for Sunday's Leinster football final against Dublin.

Not surprisingly the team that overwhelmed Laois in the semi-final by 2-18 to 0-9 gets the go-ahead as the county chases a first provincial title in nine years.

Three players survive from the team that defeated Dublin in the 2000 Leinster final replay: Sunday’s captain John Doyle, centrefielder Dermot Earley, who is having a terrific season to date, and roaming forward Ronan Sweeney.

A full house is expected at Croke Park for the match for the rematch of 2000 and 2002 when Dublin won to secure a first provincial title in seven years.

Munster hurling champions Tipperary have also named an unchanged team for Sunday’s final in Thurles against Waterford. Manager Liam Sheedy makes a few positional switches.

Waterford’s manager David Fitzgerald has made two changes, which see call-ups for Aidan Kearney and the experienced Jack Kennedy.

The latter replaces dual player Gary Hurney, who broke his collarbone in a training-ground accident, while Kearney is in for Richie Foley at left wing back.

Concerns about Stephen Molumphy remain, although the joint-captain is named at wing forward despite a knee injury that only yesterday appeared likely to keep him out.

For tomorrow’s All-Ireland hurling qualifier Wexford make changes to the team that lost to Dublin.

Oulart pair Darren Stamp and Keith Rossiter return and Harry Kehoe makes his first championship start in this crunch game in Wexford Park on Saturday next.

Rossiter comes in to corner back in place of David O’Connor whereas Stamp replaces club-mate Michael Jacob at wing back. Harry Kehoe starts at centrefield with Peter Atkinson in the substitutes’ bench. Eanna Martin and PJ Nolan are at full forward and wing forward respectively, replacing the injured Tomás Waters and Stephen Banville.

Opponents Limerick drop veteran Ollie Moran as one of three changes to the team that lost last month’s Munster semi-final replay to Waterford. Paul Browne and Denis Moloney are the others, as Donncha Sheehan, Wayne McNamara and Gavin O’Mahony, back after injury, come in.

The second round of the All-Ireland football qualifiers also takes place tomorrow. Monaghan manager Séamus McEnaney has announced an unchanged team from that which started against Armagh for tomorrow’s match against Derry.

Derry, meanwhile, have delayed naming a team until the result of last night’s hearing for defender Kevin McGuckin, who was red-carded against Tyrone in the Ulster semi-final, before the Central Hearings Committee in Croke Park.

Better news for the county is that a number of previously unavailable players are back in contention: Fergal Doherty and Brian Mullan, who were suspended after May’s match with Monaghan, Patsy Bradley and James Kielt, both injured – the latter having recovered from a broken jaw sustained during a recent club match.

Meanwhile, Wexford football manager Jason Ryan, who guided the county to last year’s All-Ireland semi-final and whose side play Roscommon tomorow, makes one change to the side that recorded the county’s first win of 2009, last week’s qualifier success against Offaly.

Kieran Kennedy of Cloughbawn starts his first championship game this year in place of Damien Carter. Shane Roche moves from full forward to wing forward with Shane Cullen now at full. Redmond Barry starts at centre forward.
