Greystones' slim mathematical chance of overtaking Lansdowne in Section A of the Kitty O'Shea-sponsored Leinster Championship came to nought at Dr Hickey Park on Saturday. The Wicklowmen needed a bucket full of tries and that would have required a mammoth performance on their part and a muddling one from their opponents. Predictably, Lansdowne were not in a charitable mood and made it through to a semi-final meeting with Carlow next weekend.

Despite taking to the field without such players as Kurt McQuilkin, David O'Mahoney, Enda Bohan, Andy Doyle and Paul O'Connor, Lansdowne won pulling up. Obviously, the fringe players recognised a chance to put their cases forward for more regular inclusion and Greystones felt the force of their need to impress coach Paul Clinch.

Winger Marcus Dillon, centre Shane Horgan and flanker Anton Forde pilfered the tries. The additional assurance of Richard Governey's place kicking made it a comfortable afternoon for the winners and a most unrewarding one for Greystones.

Group victors Terenure College warmed up for their semifinal with Clontarf by finishing off their section in style at Station Road. Powerful wing David Coleman punctured the Suttonians defence on no less than four occasions. Ciaran Clarke and Derek Hegarty also got in on the seven try bonanza as Suttonians faded out of contention from an early stage.
