A LATE penalty by scrum half David Morris gave Sligo Grammar School a 9-6 victory over battling St Muredach's College, Ballina, and a place in the final of the Connacht Schools' Senior Cup at Heffernan Park, Ballina, yesterday.

The Sligo college led 6-3 at half time, Morris on target with two penalties and Ger Brady, the Ballina out half and a brother of the Mayo midfielder, David, keeping his side in contention with a penalty.

In a pulsating second half, fought with real cup fervour in brilliant sunshine, Ballina could consider themselves unlucky when Brady and centre, Kevin Walkin, were hauled down feet from the line with the Sligo defence beaten.

Eight minutes from time, Brady scored from a 40 metre penalty to level 6-6 and in the last flourish, Ballina were penalised for going over the top in front of the posts and Morris had an easy tap over on the 22 in the 29th minute for the winner.
