Limerick made it three Munster hurling titles in a row with a stunning second half performance against Tipperary. The reigning All-Ireland champions trailed by 10 points at the interval but turned the game on its head in the third quarter to run out 2-29 to 3-21 winners. Dublin laboured to a six point win over Meath in the Leinster football semi-final, blowing an 11 point lead with an unusually sloppy second half showing. They'll play Kildare who were two point winners over Westmeath. In Sunday's Ulster semi-final Michael Murphy was sent off in the first half as Donegal were beaten by Tyrone - 0-23 to 1-14.
Collin Morikawa claimed his second career Major, adding the Claret Jug to the Wanamaker Trophy of last year, firing a bogey-free final round 66 for a total of 15-under-par 265 and a two-stroke winning margin over Jordan Spieth. In adding the British Open to the US PGA he won last year, Morikawa joined Tiger Woods as the only players to have lifted both championships before the age of 25. Shane Lowry flirted with glory but his Open defence finished with a final round 69 for a total of six-under-par 274 and a tied-12th finishing position. In the early hours Ireland's Séamus Power continued his strong form by claiming his first PGA Tour title in a play-off with JT Poston at the Barbasol Championship.
The Springboks captain Siya Kolisi, hooker Bongi Mbonambi and winger Makazole Mapimpi all appear to be in a race against time to be available for next Saturday's first Test against the British and Irish Lions. South Africa will be the next step on the 'accidental' coaching journey for Leinster academy manager Noel McNamara. He has agreed a two-year contract as backs/attack coach with the Sharks rugby franchise and will move to Durban with his wife Sinead and three young daughters. He told John O'Sullivan: "just getting back on the grass was the main motivation for me."
Meanwhile, sixteen-year-old Jamie Mullins scored on his full debut as Bohemians had to come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with bottom-of-the-table Longford Town. Cian Kavanagh scored a terrific goal as Waterford added to a bad week for Sligo Rovers, beating them 1-0 at the RSC.
