Longford, on a high following their marvellous O'Byrne Cup triumph, scored another notable win when they pipped neighbours Cavan in a cracking local derby at Pearse Park.

Trailing by four points in the early stages of the second half, Longford finally clicked into top gear to score 2-4 in the space of seven glorious minutes with goals from Paul Barden and Niall Sheridan.

However, Cavan fought back to narrow the gap and eventually drew level with a point from Mickey Graham, with the game entering the final minute.

In fact, they should have been in front as Peter Reilly had a 51st-minute penalty saved by Longford goalkeeper Gavin Tonra, while both Fintan Cahill and Mickey Graham missed open goals.
