Munster Club FC/Stardbally 0-11 Loughmore 1-7: Despite being reduced to 14 players, Waterford champions Stradbally emerged victorious at Dungarvan yesterday. The home side lost the services of centre back Trevor Costelloe late in the opening half when he received a straight red card.
Eight minutes had elapsed before the first score, a John Hearne point for Stradbally. And a brace of pointed-frees from Niall Curran and one from Stephen Cunningham helped Stradbally into 0-4 to 0-3 lead at the break - the Tipperary side's scores coming from Tommy Ormonde (2) and James Egan.
A Michael Walsh free stretched Stradbally's lead on the resumption, but Loughmore were soon back on level terms when Declan Laffan (from a free) and Martin "Puddy" Gleeson found the target.
Curran restored Stradbally's advantage, but Loughmore took the lead for the first time in the 40th minute when Laffan found the net from a penalty.
It was to be short-lived. Stephen Cunningham and sub Shane Lennon helped Stradbally back in front, 0-9 to 1-5, before George Walsh stretched their lead with 10 minutes left. Gleeson - who was outstanding for Loughmore - hit back twice, with Niall Curran converting a Stradbally free in between.
However, with one point still between the sides, a disciplined Stradbally defence stood firm.
