Dermot Weld continued his firm grip on Ballybrit on Saturday, when Adrian Maguire steered Treble Bob to an emphatic 25 lengths success in the Galway Blazers Handicap Chase. "I suppose after Tony McCoy's brilliant ride on this fellow on Tuesday behind Moscow Express, Adrian was on a hiding to nothing here, as this fellow takes a lot of driving," said Weld of the Kilmessan-born rider, who was only passed fit to ride before racing.

Maguire suffered bruising on both shoulders and had to undergo X-rays on his right femur and knee following a crashing fall from Gales Cavalier in Wednesday's Plate, but he showed no ill-effects when initiating a double on Tony Martin's Rahanine Melody. Armagh handler John Woods will never forget the concluding day's featured Dawn Milk Handicap Hurdle. Cairncross, who travelled sweetly until knocking the penultimate flight when finishing sixth behind Storm Gem on Wednesday, was again partnered by Harry Rogers.

Rogers, successful aboard Try A Brandy in the 1988 Galway Hurdle, had the 12 to 1 chance right out the back until closing on the leaders approaching the second last. He got a beautiful run out of the dip before sweeping to the front approaching the final flight to run out four lengths clear of Palette and Richard Dunwoody.

Confusion reigned at Hamilton Park on Saturday evening after it was discovered the wrong horse had taken part in the EBF Glegoyne Malt Fillies' Handicap.
