Both Monaghan and Wexford team managers were furious with the late cancellation of their Division 2B League game scheduled for Gorey on Saturday. Limerick referee Mick Walsh arrived just 20 minutes before the scheduled start and following a quick inspection declared the pitch unplayable.

Monaghan, who travelled the previous evening, and Wexford players, had warmed up when the referee decided not to proceed in the interests of safety, as the pitch was carrying surface water in several areas.

Monaghan Manager, Sean McCarville, was furious with the late pitch inspection. Having vented his feelings to the officials in charge at their arrival he was adamant that given the weather of the past week there should have been a pitch inspection much earlier.

Given the tight league schedule both teams could now face a refixture next weekend at Gorey, even though Wexford will be playing away to Tipperary in the National Hurling League.
