Connacht Under-21 FC Final/Mayo 1-22 Roscommon 1-8:Pierce Hanley was Mayo's top scorer at McHale Park on Saturday as the defending Connacht and All-Ireland under-21 champions registered an emphatic 14-point victory over Roscommon.
Full forward Hanley scored five of his nine-point tally from play as the Mayo midfield pairing of Barry Moran and Tom Parsons dominated to lay the foundations for their convincing win.
It looked as though the holders were going to cruise to an even easier victory than they eventually achieved when they struck for an eighth-minute goal through Parsons and established an early eight-point lead.
Roscommon rallied briefly towards the end of the first half and were lifted by a Cathal Cregg goal which saw them trail by five points at the half-time break, 1-10 to 1-5.
Mayo managed to move up a gear in the second half, however, and scored a string of points, despite the first score of the period going to Roscommon's David Hoey within a minute of the restart.
The reigning champions dominated the game from there on in and moved into an All-Ireland semi-final meeting with the Leinster champions.
