Mayobridge ... 2-14 Rostrevor ... 0-9Mayobridge collected back-to-back Down senior football championship titles with a superb display of attacking football against Rostrevor in Newry yesterday.
The Mayobridge full-forward line of Ronan Sexton, Mickey Linden, and Robbie Coulter scored 2-8 of their side's total with the brilliant Linden giving Rostrevor full back Finbar Caulfield a torrid time.
On top at midfield Mayobridge raced into a four-point lead with points from John Quinn, who replaced the injured Noel Sexton before the start, Linden, Michael Walsh and Brendan Coulter. Dermot Mackin and Aidan Cole came back with points for Rostrevor before the winners added three points to lead by 0-7 to 0-2 midway through the half.
Mayobridge took control in the third quarter culminating in a great move involving Michael Walsh and Brendan Coulter to set up Robbie Coulter for a goal which saw Mayobridge lead by 1-9 to 0-3 at half-time.
The sides exchanged points twice in the 10 minutes after half-time before Ronan Sexton, Robbie Coulter and John Quinn increased the Mayobridge lead with points.
The second goal of the game was another superb effort as Brendan Coulter and Ronan Sexton cut through the defence for Sexton to strike to the net. Lloyd Parr, with two points, and Conor Daly from a free landed Rostrevor points to complete the scoring.
