NFL/ First Division: A win for leaders Drogheda United at Sligo Rovers tomorrow afternoon will confirm their promotion as First Division champions and complete a remarkable turn in fortunes for manager Harry McCue, whose side had to apply for re-election last season.
"We deserve to go up," says striker Declan O'Brien, who, in his first season in the National League has scored a remarkable 19 goals, 10 in the last eight games.
"I knew it would be a step up in standard, but I scored on my debut which was a great help. That worked wonders for my confidence and I haven't looked back since," said the 22-year-old Dubliner.
The play-off situation is in confusion, with the league agreeing to hold off on deciding who gets it if third-placed Dublin City should beat second-placed Finn Harps.
Dublin have taken their case over Noel Hunt's ineligibility to play for Waterford United against them to arbitration, having had an appeal already thrown out.
Waterford were deducted three points for playing Hunt in the 2-1 win at Whitehall earlier this month. But Dublin City say the rules state the match should be deemed void and want either a replay or the points awarded to them.
The league will have to hope that Harps get a result, as Dublin City would then finish at least four points behind them and thus drop the case, as it would become irrelevant.
