Tyrone 3-9 Fermanagh 0-9The final scoreline said much about this rather disappointing Ulster minor football championship finals in Clones yesterday, where Tyrone's three goals effectively wrapped up the title against a Fermanagh side who started brightly but flattered to deceive.
Damian McDermott proved Tyrone's executioner-in-chief, with his two goals and four points going a long way to ensuring victory.
McDermott grabbed his brace in a blistering three-minute spell between the 19th and 21st minutes of the first half to lay the foundations for victory and inflict hammer blows on Fermanagh from which they never recovered.
By half-time Tyrone were 2-6 to 0-3 in front and they might well have had a greater advantage but for a couple of missed opportunities in the run-up to the whistle.
On the resumption Fermanagh started with purpose and two Shane O'Brien converted frees reduced the deficit to seven points.
It was a promising start but they were unable to build on it as Tyrone responded with a period of play that saw them hit three points without reply, two by McDermott from frees and one by Ciaran Bannon which left them leading comfortably by 10 points as the match entered its final quarter.
Another pointed free by Shane King kept Fermanagh notionally in touch but any chance they had of making a fight of it was killed off when Tyrone captain Damian Meenan finished clinically for his side's third goal after good work from Richard Gillen and Michael Murphy.
That effectively wrapped up the result for Tyrone, with Fermanagh pulling back three late consolation points but there was never any chance that they were going to salvage the game.
