Golf: Rory McIlroy remains in a share of the lead at the Memorial Tournament, despite managing only a level par 72 in his second round. The Irishman carded a 66 yesterday to hold the overnight advantage with American Chris Riley.

Unlike Riley, he was an early starter today but reached the turn in 36 after three birdies and three bogeys. It was a similar story on the way in, but this time a double bogey at the 14th and another dropped shot at the last undid good work at the 11th, 13th and 15th.

His inconsistency afforded the chasing pack a chance and Ricky Barnes, Jonathan Byrd and Australian Rod Pampling obliged with a 70, 67 and 66 respectively. Those rounds were only enough to draw level with the Holywood golfer, however, though Riley was on five under after four holes, alongside Ricky Fowler.

Rounds of 68 saw Aaron Baddely and Kevin Stadler move to five under as well, while Josh Teater and Chris Di Marco were on the same score with their second rounds yet to commence.
