Football 365 celebrated the Republic's World Cup qualification by listing several reasons why it was good news. We liked the first, a lot, namely that it would guarantee that Jack Charlton's (right) punditry and commentating talents would be called upon during the tournament. E.g.: Jack (during C5's Republic of Ireland v Yugoslavia commentary): "Bloody hell, where's Keane gone? Where's Roy Keane? He's nowhere to be seen. C'mon Roy, get stuck in." Jonathan Pearce: "Jack? Jack? He was subbed for Carsley."
