Leinster Senior Colleges/Moyne, Longford 0-12 Marist, Athlone 1-3:Despite some very poor finishing, which included a couple of clear-cut goal chances in the early stages of the game, Co Longford side Moyne still proved too strong for Athlone opponents Marist in the Leinster Colleges Senior 'A' Football Championship second-round qualifier at the Dromard grounds yesterday.
While Marist were fortunate to be only a point behind at the break, 0-5 to 1-1, with prominent corner-forward Eric Farrell firing home a fine goal in the 18th minute, superior Moyne gradually pulled away in the second half to win by the comfortable margin of six points.
Shane Briody registered 0-3 for Moyne in the first half with Paddy King and Emmet Masterson also on target, while their seven second-half scores came from Fergus Reilly, King (two), Paul McKeon, Martin Brady (two) and Briody.
Powerful midfielder Brady was outstanding right throughout the game and Moyne will have home advantage again when they take on Patrician, Newbridge in the third-round qualifier at the same venue this Friday.
