Defending champions Munster face an uphill struggle to retain their Boys' Interprovincial championship at Birr after losing their opening match to Ulster. The champions looked to be heading for victory after the morning foursomes which they won 2-1, but they collapsed totally in the afternoon singles, winning just one and eventually lost the match 31/251/2.

Leinster accounted for Connacht in the second match thanks mainly to their morning foursomes domination. They led 2-1 going into the afternoon singles which were shared 3-3.
