Connacht SFC First Round/ Sligo 2-18 New York 1-3:Sligo swept to a runaway victory in a one-sided championship game at Gaelic Park, New York yesterday.

Former All Star Eamonn O'Hara gave Sligo a dream start with a well-taken goal just a minute into the game.

Mark Breheny then added a point from a free, before Shane Russell opened the home side's account in the 16th minute.

The towering Ken O'Connor and Shane Russell claimed a lot of possession in the centre of the field, however the Sligo defence curtailed the New York forwards and the visitors deserved their 2-6 to one point lead at half-time - midfielder Ciarán Quinn getting Sligo's second goal just before the break.

Ronan Garvey got New York's second score after three minutes of the second half from a free-kick, but the New York side continued to struggle to stay with the fleet-footed Yeatsmen.
