O'Leary wants best behaviour

Chelsea v Leeds Sky Sports1: 8

Chelsea v Leeds Sky Sports1: 8.00: David O'Leary has urged Leeds and Chelsea fans to be on their best behaviour tonight following the recent spate of missile-throwing incidents.

There has never been any love lost between Chelsea and Leeds in the past - with 71 yellow cards and five red in the last 11 league meetings - and tonight's Premiership clash is one which could turn ugly on both sides of the white line.

That is why Leeds manager O'Leary, sporting two black eyes following nose surgery last week, is hoping the fans will keep their cool regardless of what happens on the pitch.

"I would implore both sets of fans to be on their best behaviour," he said. "It's important to everybody that they do behave. But when you've a crowd of 40,000 people or more, like at Highbury, what can you do when there is only one fan throwing something? You have to hope the fans show more control."

When asked about his players being protected from the possibility of having objects thrown at them O'Leary added: "That's down to Chelsea. I'll leave that to them."

Leeds at least have the opportunity to open up some daylight between themselves and sixth-placed Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, a ground where they have lost just once in the last eight visits.

While Mario Stanic is available after suspension, Claudio Ranieri's Chelsea side could be without in-form striker Eidur Gudjohnsen, whose wife was due to give birth yesterday. But Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink should lead the attack against his former club after recovering from a knock which forced him off against West Ham last weekend.

William Gallas is doubtful with a knee injury sustained in the warm-up for the FA Cup tie, but is included in the squad.

Chelsea's Frank Lampard admits that their top-four challenge hangs in the balance as they are five points behind fifth-placed Leeds. "It's a massive game," he said. "If we lose then the gap possibly becomes too big. But if we win we are right on their tails again."

O'Leary is looking up the table rather than down. "We are three points off the top with a game in hand - so it's up to us to keep going."

O'Leary welcomes Olivier Dacourt back to the squad after nearly two months out following surgery to a dislocated shoulder. The French midfielder is likely to have to settle for a place on the bench, though, along with Harry Kewell and Robbie Keane, as they close in on full fitness after their own injury problems.

O'Leary is without striker Alan Smith as he sits out the second of a five-game ban, while right-back Danny Mills starts a four-match suspension.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is appealing against Denis Bergkamp's dismissal against Liverpool on Sunday for violent conduct, and will also contest Martin Keown's red card for a professional foul if it is possible.

Wenger has four main doubts for tonight's game at Blackburn - namely Patrick Vieira (ankle), Sol Campbell (gastric virus), Robert Pires (back) and Thierry Henry (lip wound).

Under-fire Jamie Carragher returns to the relative safety of Anfield for tonight's clash with Leicester. But Liverpool will almost certainly be without Steven Gerrard because of a neck injury.

Newcastle's Kieron Dyer is out of tonight's game with Tottenham with a foot injury. Glen Hoddle's main injury worry remains leading scorer Les Ferdinand, who hopes to shake off a neck problem. Dean Richards will return to the team.

Aston Villa joint caretaker manager John Deehan is urging the players "to put on a performance that John Gregory would be proud of" in tonight's home Premiership clash with Everton. Striker Dion Dublin is added to the players who won at the Valley last Monday.

West Ham boss Glenn Roeder is confident of ending his side's woeful away record when they face Southampton at St Mary's Stadium tomorrow night.

Roeder is mystified how his side can have one of the worst records away from home, but also boast the best defensive record in the top flight.
