Around 100 people - one of the smallest crowds ever to watch a National Football League tie in Cork - turned up to see Cork turn over Limerick at Pairc Ui Rinn yesterday.
Cork will have learned very little from this outing as the contest, such as it was, was effectively over after 18 minutes, when the home side led by 0-11 to 0-1, and Cork were ahead by 0-18 to 0-5 just 10 minutes into the second half.
In all, 11 Cork players got on the scoresheet with full forward Joe Kavanagh once more emerging as top scorer with 1-4. His goal came from a sweetly struck penalty three minutes from the end after his Nemo Rangers clubmate Steven O'Brien was upended.
Limerick, who were totally out of their depth, still had satisfaction of claiming two of the better scores in the game. Full forward Damien Reidy curled over a spectacular left-foot point after 22 minutes and then midfielder John Quane found the target from a 33rd minute sideline kick.
