Fresh of securing bronze in the 100m breaststroke, Mona McSharry has set another Irish record in the process of qualifying for the 200m breastroke final at the World Short Course Championships in Abu Dhabi.
McSharry finished third in her heat this morning in a time of 2:21.59, good enough for seventh overall and a place in Tuesday afternoon’s final. The previous Irish record of 2:22.70 was held by Niamh Coyne. McSharry’s 200m best was 2:25.08 before today.
This is the seventh Irish senior record McSharry has set at these championships. She now holds eight national records across both long (50m) and short (25m) form racing.
McSharry swims in the 200m breaststroke final at 2.41pm on Tuesday afternoon, Irish time. She is one of three Irish swimmers in finals action on the last day of the championships, with Daniel Wiffen competing in the 1500m freestyle Jack McMillan in the 100m freestyle.
