Limerick IT 2-19 GMIT 1-11:EVEN WITHOUT Joe Canning who was rested, Limerick IT booked a quarter-final place and a home tie with a convincing win over outclassed GMIT at Limerick.

Limerick began with early points from Bernard Gaffney and Timmy Dalton before Gaffney blasted a 21-yard free to the net after only six minutes. Paul Browne added a point before Dalton scored Limerick’s second goal after only ten minutes.

Ronan Madden had Galway’s first point and at the end of the first quarter LIT led 2-5 to 0-1.

Limerick went on to lead 2-10 to 0-5 at the interval. Tipperary star, Seamus Callinan suffered a hand injury just before the interval and did not resume in the second half.

GMIT, helped by eight points from top scorer Madden, reduced the deficit to 2-15 to 1-10 at one stage but Limerick remained in control.
