Patrickswell won their 16th Limerick Senior Hurling championship in 32 years when they proved far too strong for Garyspillane in a most disappointing final at the Gaelic grounds.

Patrickswell swept into a 1-8 to 0-3 interval lead and eased up in the second half. Garyspillane, appearing in the final for the first time, had the ideal start when Frankie Carroll put them in front with a point after 10 seconds; but Carroll subsequently shot wide from a penalty.

And it was a penalty at the other end, after 21 minutes, which sealed their fate as Gary Kirby blasted to the net to make it 1-7 to 0-2 at that early stage.

Patrickswell's victory, before an attendance of 7,200, also gave coach Dave Mahedy, a unique double as he also coached University of Limerick to win the football championship.
