Kenny Perry recorded the second-lowest 72-hole winning score on the PGA Tour this season to win the $3.1 million Buick Open on Sunday, breaking a six-year winless streak in the process.
Perry, who won $558,000, shot a final-round three-under-par 69 at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club to finish at 25-under, one stroke off the tournament record set in 1987.
Padraig Harrington tied for sixth at 20-under 268, after a final round of 69 meant he shot all four days in the 60s. Harrington shared the sixth position with Brian Gay.
The win was Perry's fourth on the PGA Tour and his first since winning the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in 1995.
"It was a long night last night, I didn't sleep much," Perry said. "I struggled and fought, I fought all day. I wanted to shoot 68 to ensure the win."
Perry built a five-stroke 54-hole lead on Saturday by playing the final four holes in five-under.
Yesterday, however, he never allowed his nerves to fray despite pressure from fellow Americans Chris DiMarco and Jim Furyk. Perry birdied the par-four fourth hole and remained one-under through the 13th hole, but birdies at the par-four 14th and the par-five 16th gave Perry the two-shot win.
DiMarco shot a seven-under 65 to tie Furyk for second place at 23-under.
Dudley Hart and Tom Pernice, Jr., who won last week's International, tied for fourth at 21-under par.
