It hasn't quite sunk in for him yet, but Brian Kostick had his first ever hole-in-one last Saturday, and in doing so may have claimed a little piece of history at Marlay public golf course. Kostick - a 22 handicapper who is hoping to get into Edmondstown in the near future - had gone to Marlay, in his own words "to brush up on his short game before a trip to Powerscourt." So you can imagine his delight when he arrived on the 111-yard seventh hole, and duly aced with his seven iron. The club records say that this is the first time anyone had ever holed-in-one at that particular hole.
Kostick, a member of the Travel Industry golf society, was thrilled. "I've played cricket (with Carlisle) and never got a century. I've got a couple of 50s, but this hole in one more than makes up for that. I still can't believe it."
