Rangers restored their credibility in Europe last night with a stunning victory over Bundesliga giants Dortmund. Rangers will now travel to Dortmund in good heart in two weeks, confident they can reach the quarter-finals.
Rangers had luck on their side in the 18th minute when they took the lead. Dortmund skipper Jurgen Kohler tried to steer a cross from Gabriel Amato back to Jens Lehmann, but only succeeded in knocking the ball beyond him for a bizarre own-goal.
Rangers extended their lead on the stroke of half-time with a wonderful goal. Giovanni van Bronckhorst sent Jorg Albertz clear down the left and the German shaped to shoot. Instead he cleverly cut the ball back to Rod Wallace, who sent a marvellous curling shot into the corner.
