NEWS ROUND-UP: Two Rathnew players may be facing lengthy bans after being summoned to last night's meeting of the Games Administration Committee.

Tommy Gill and Trevor Doyle were asked to attend the meeting after the GAC had reviewed video evidence of separate incidents involving each player during last month's All-Ireland club semi-final against eventual champions Ballinderry.

In the video, the players are seen to kick out in the direction of opponents. The mandatory suspension for kicking is 12 weeks. Yesterday there was reticence in Rathnew about talking on the record about the charges, given the proximity of the hearing, but one source in the club said that they were taken aback by the development.

"We have seen the video and would consider the charges very debatable. Tommy Gill was kicking at the ball and was actually awarded a free. Trevor also got a free and kicked out, but in both incidents we were the innocent party and in both incidents the referee was close by. It's disappointing that this should come up three weeks later."

The GAC decision will be known later today.

Meanwhile, Cork hurlers make two changes for Sunday's match against Offaly in Division One B of the National League. The division's leaders bring John Browne back from injury at centre back and Neil Ronan, who scored five points as a substitute against Derry, comes in for Ben O'Connor.

The county's footballers welcome back the Nemo Rangers contingent after Sunday's All-Ireland club final. Martin Cronin and Maurice McCarthy start against Donegal while Colin Corkery and Seán O'Brien are listed among the substitutes.

Dublin have deferred naming their team for Sunday's match against Roscommon at Parnell Park. The Division One A match, which will have a crucial impact on who qualifies for the play-offs, will be shown live on TG4. It replaces the Kerry-Armagh Division Two A match, which had originally been listed for broadcast and which could condemn the Munster champions to another season out of the top flight should they fail to win.

They are likely to be without Seamus Moynihan who is suffering from a hamstring strain. He joins a more serious injury concern, John Crowley, who damaged his ankle playing in the Inter-Firms final last week. And so far there is no sign of Maurice Fitzgerald returning although he scored five points for his club St Mary's at the weekend.

Tyrone's defensive problems have eased ahead of Sunday's game against Westmeath at Pomeroy. Full back Chris Lawn, who missed the win over Offaly after suffering concussion at Ballybofey a week earlier, is set to return, while centre back Sean Teague could make a return, having recovered from a back injury.

Meath make three changes for Sunday's vital Division Two B fixture against Wexford at Wexford Park. The home side top the table and need only one win from their remaining two matches to ensure promotion to Division One for the first time since the modern NFL structure was introduced. Meath must win both of theirs and so Sunday will be vital.

Nigel Nestor returns for the first time since the championship defeat by Galway last September and replaces John Cullinane. Anthony Moyles and Adrian Kenny also make way for Daithi Regan, making his first start, and Graham Geraghty who missed the recent match against Carlow.

Kilkenny hurler Denis Byrne will miss the rest of the league campaign after breaking his right hand in a training accident. It is the second time in three years that he has sustained this injury, which will keep him out of action for at least six weeks.
