CHAMPIONS LEAGUE/Round Up: Real Madrid made it three wins out of three in the second stage of the Champions League last night as substitute Santiago Solari struck seven minutes from time to clinch a 1-0 victory at home against Porto.
Real had looked short of ideas in front of goal before the introduction of the Argentine midfielder in the final quarter of an hour.
With Porto concentrating on defence, Real looked set to have to settle for a draw before Solari received the ball on the edge of the box and smacked a left-foot shot past Vitor Baia and in off the post.
In the group's other match, Panathinaikos of Greece won a precious 2-0 away victory over Sparta Prague.
Midfielder Giorgios Karagounis opened the scoring in the 39th minute when he picked up a pass when unmarked on the edge of the box and drove home a shot which goalkeeper Petr Cech could manage only to slow down on its way into the net.
Michalis Konstantinou added the Greek club's second in the 71st minute, driving a low shot inside the left post after making his way through Sparta's slow defence.
The win lifted Panathinaikos to second in the group with four points from three matches, five points behind Real Madrid and one ahead of Sparta.
Alessandro Del Piero had a 73rd minute penalty saved as Juventus were held to a goalless draw by Deportivo Coruna in Turin in their Group D match.
The result leaves both sides on four points from three games, level with Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen.
