A record prize fund of €450,000 is on offer when the AIB Irish Seniors Open pitches up at the PGA National Ireland in over the June Bank Holiday weekend.
Defending champion Sam Torrance will be among those competing for the €67,500 winner's cheque at the Kildare layout, which hosts the event for the first time.
The event, in its 11th year, returns to the eastern seaboard for
the first time since Japan's Seiji Ebihara claimed victory at
Powerscourt in 2001.
"This year we are delighted to be able to bring the
tournament back to the many thousands of golf fans in and around
Ireland's capital, especially in a year when the Irish Open on The
European Tour is switching to Limerick," explained Andy Stubbs, the
managing director of the European Seniors Tour
"With it also being a Bank Holiday weekend in Ireland, we hope to attract bumper crowds to Palmerstown House."
