Rock of Gibraltar, owned by Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson, was yesterday well-backed for the Sagitta 2,000 Guineas with Coral who subsequently slashed his odds to 7 to 1 third favourite from 10 to 1.

Rock Of Gibraltar has been the best backed horse in the race over the last few days suggesting a big run is expected by connections.

"A Classic success on Saturday for Alex Ferguson would surely be more than just a consolation following a disappointing end to Manchester United's season, and the money suggests it might just happen", said Coral spokesman Simon Clare.
