A clinically-taken goal from their South African striker, Falcon Rose, booked Sligo Rovers' berth in the semi-finals of the League Cup as they survived a late rally by Bray to hold on and win their quarter-final tie at the Carlisle Grounds yesterday. Bray had survived a first-half pounding to come right into the game, only for their one mistake to cost them the match nine minutes into the second-half.

Central defenders, Jody Lynch and Anthony McKeever, hesitated as they both came to clear a Steve Jones ball forward; both missed the ball, which ran through for Rose, who raced away and slid it under John Walsh.

Walsh, and some dreadful finishing, had kept Bray in the match in the first-half, but having fallen behind so early in the second half, Bray threw everything forward and were almost caught on the break eight minutes from time when Rose cleverly played Regis through, but Walsh again came to Bray's rescue with a fine save.
