Golf Digest: Justin Rose and British Open champion Ben Curtis set the clubhouse target of seven under par 137 at the halfway mark of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village GC, Dublin, Ohio.
Rose added a second round five under par 67, which could have been much better but for a double bogey at the last, while Curtis shot 69 to lead by one from KJ Choi and Fred Couples.
Tiger Woods moved into contention with a 68 for a 140 total, while Padraig Harrington is eight shots off the pace after a second round 74 left him on 145.
Champions Tour: Des Smyth fired an opening round of five under par 67 in the Farmers Charity Classic at Egypt Valley GC, Michigan, yesterday.
In a day of low scoring, Smyth is three shots off the pace set by Sammy Rachels. The former Club professional champion shot an eight under par 64 to lead by one from Sam Torrance and a group of five on 66.
Challenge Tour: A back nine of five birdies, three bogeys and a solitary par kept Philip Walton in contention for the European Challenge Tour's Nykredit Danish Open yesterday.
The Dubliner went to the turn in 38, including a double bogey at the third, before his bizarre closing nine holes handed him a second round 72 for a one-under aggregate of 141 that leaves him six shots off the pace, set by England's Mathew Morris.
Gavin McNeill will join Walton over the weekend after his 73 gave him a two over par aggregate and saw him make the weekend cut by one shot, but Stephen Browne will be heading home after a six over par 148 total.
British Amateur Open: The 36-hole final at St Andrews today is an England v Scotland battle between Lee Corfield and Walker Cup player Stuart Wilson.
Corfield admitted he had never felt such tension at the level of his semi-final with American Andrew Svoboda, which he won with a last-green birdie, while Wilson beat compatriot Eric Ramsay 2 and 1 - the second year in a row Ramsay has gone out at the last-four stage.
"It was certainly a pressure I've never been under before," said Corfield.
LPGA European Tour: Spain's Ana-Belen Sanchez defied a blustery wind to take the lead after the second round of the €275,000 BMW Ladies Italian Open after carding an impressive three under par 69 around Parco di Roma GC on the outskirts of the Italian capital.
The 28-year-old from Malaga leads by two shots from rookie Virginie Beauchet from France. Suzanne O'Brien added a 77 to a first round 78 to miss the cut by three shots.
Joe Carr: "The Golfing Union of Ireland will be forever be indebted to the late Joe Carr for his massive contribution to amateur golf - as a player, team captain, administrator and international ambassador," said Albert Lee, president of the GUI.
"Joe was a Trustee of the Golfing Union of Ireland and indeed gave his full support to the union's decision to move its headquarters and build a National Golf Academy at Carton House.
"Joe's great spirit, warm and friendly welcome for all will be very sadly missed. We will always cherish warm memories of a true champion, and gentleman, and we extend our deepest sympathy to all his family."
