Djurgarden (Sweden) 2 Shamrock Rovers 0, Djurgarden win 5-1 on aggregate: Djurgarden ended Shamrock Rovers' hopes of European football after completing a comfortable aggregate victory in the second leg of their qualification clash in Stockholm last night.
The Swedes went into the match with a 3-1 advantage and first-half goals from Samuel Wowoah and Louay Chanko were enough to claim another simple win on the night at the Resunda Stadium.
Rovers were pegged back from the word go and it looked only a matter of time before the home side would take the lead. They did so in the 19th minute; Wowoah chesting home a corner when Rovers keeper Robbie Horgan might have done better.
Horgan was left with no chance four minutes later, however, when Chanko's shot from just inside the box went in off the post.
The second half was a huge disappointment in terms of entertainment with Djurgarden content to sit back and Rovers struggling to create anything in the way of chances.
The highlight of the half came midway through the half when young Swedish international Kim Kallstrom attempted an audacious lob from 45 yards which dropped just over the Shamrock crossbar.
