Despite playing out the final 20 minutes with 10 men, Shamrock Rovers reached the semi-final of the FAI National League cup at Dalymount Park last night.

Mark Proctor's dismissal after a second bookable offence saw Mick Byrne regroup his forces. But the tactical substitution of Thomas Dunne for Brian Morrisroe ironically decided the contest with Dunne's long free kick badly misjudged by central defender Brendan Place. Jason Sherlock stole free and released Tony Cousins who slotted home from 10 yards out on 69 minutes.

Bohemians: Batty, Mullen, Brunton, Broughan, Byrne, Harkin, Lawlor, Doolin, Place, Ngata, De Gregorio. Subs: Swan for Mullen (86 mins).

Shamrock Rovers: Forde, Britton, Proctor, Brazil, Palmer, Colwell, Woods, Cousins, Purdy, Sherlock, Morrisroe. Subs: Dunne for Morrisroe (68 mins), Treacy for Sherlock (76 mins), O'Neill for Woods (85 mins).

Referee: D Hancock (Dublin).
