Ireland coach Joe Schmidt is "recovering well" after having his appendix removed last night.

The Kiwi, who attended the 26-23 win over Australia despite suffering from appendicitis, was assessed by the match day doctors and "sent to St Vincent's Hospital for further assement" after the game before undergoing surgery.

“On Saturday night Joe had his appendix removed and is recovering well this morning,” said the IRFU this morning.

“Joe would like to thank the doctors and nurses of St St Vincent’s Hospital and everyone for their well wishes and kind messages of support.”
