Former Ireland international Geordan Murphy has confirmed he will retire from club rugby with Leicester at the end of this season.

The 35-year-old, who won 72 caps for Ireland, has been troubled by a knee injury for much of the year and is expected to take up a role as a skills specialist on the Tigers’ coaching staff.

The Naas-born player made more than 320 appearances for Leicester, with his decision announced as they prepare for an Aviva Premiership play-off clash against Harlequins next Saturday.
