Robin Copeland and Dave O’Callaghan sign new Munster deals

Academy back Rory Scannell also signs a senior contract with the province

Munster have announced Robin Copeland and Dave O'Callaghan have signed two-year contract extensions, keeping them at Thomond Park until June 2018.

The province, who currently lie sixth in the Pro 12 table, have also confirmed academy player Rory Scannell has signed a senior contract.

28-year-old Copeland has made 24 appearances for Munster since he joined ast the start of last season, while fellow backrow O’Callaghan has featured 54 times since his debut against the Ospreys in 2011 and is a product of the province’s academy.

Scannell meanwhile made his Champions Cup debut for the province this season, coming off the bench during the 32-7 bonus point win over Treviso in October.

The 22-year-old, who can play at outhalf and in midfield, will be promoted to to a development contract at the start of the 2016/17 season and will advance to a full contract for season 2017/18.

On the announcement of new deals for the trio Munster boss Anthony Foley said: "It is great to have Robin, Dave and Rory commit to the province. Each player has their own individual attributes and are all valuable members of this squad.

“With Robin and Dave we are maintaining the services of two hugely physical players that each bring different skill-sets to our overall game. In addition to this, both players have proven their versatility over the years in playing across the back row and at lock so we are delighted to have players of their calibre in the squad.

“Similar to Dave we are fortunate to have further home-grown talent like Rory make their way up through the ranks. For a young guy who has been playing at the next level for over a year now we are looking forward to seeing Rory’s contribution develop into the future.”
