Solid Castletroy hold off Glenstal Abbey to secure win

Outhalf Heuston scores all points as forwards put in robust defence to hang on for victory

Castletroy College got the Munster Schools Senior Cup off to a lively start when they upset Glenstal Abbey at Rosbrien yesterday.

Outhalf Jayme Heuston was the hero for the winners. He scored all their points, getting a try, which he converted, and then landing what proved to be the winning penalty after only 28 minutes.

In a low-scoring affair each side managed only a single try and both were scored inside ten minutes.

and Heuston were instrumental in creating the try for the outhalf who converted.

Within three minutes it was all-square when Glenstal fullback Colm Hogan popped up to round off a move. Jack Stafford converted.

But Castletroy's forwards Mike O'Mara, Ronan Murphy – despite being in the sinbin for seven minutes – and Colm Myers carried the day to set up a home game in the next round.

Glenstal mounted a series of late attacks to salvage the game but each time they met with a very solid defensive unit.
