Cycling News: As expected, multiple Irish champion Robin Seymour took a 13th consecutive national mountainbike title in Kilruddery estate yesterday, further extending what is a remarkable winning streak. Seymour beat closest competitor Niall Davis by two and a half minutes, with James McCluskey taking bronze in the cross-country race.
Seymour has also won 14 cross country titles and has undoubtedly one of the best championship records in Irish sport.
In the women's race, Tarja Owens added another gold to her own glittering collection, surviving a fall to finish 45 seconds ahead of second-placed Beth McCluskey. Owens has now taken the last 12 championships.
Conor McConvey beat Robert McCabe to win the junior race, while Robert Lamont and Joe McCall were best of the veterans and masters.
Elsewhere, Luke Rowe was crowned the final winner of the M Donnelly Junior Tour of Ireland yesterday after race leader Adam Bonser crashed out. Bonser had led the race since day two and started yesterday's final stage to Castlebar with a comfortable one minute, 17 second lead over Rowe. However, the talented young rider crashed just beyond Glenhest and ended the day in hospital with facial injuries.
American rider Andy Cornelison won the sprint finish which decided the stage into Castlebar. Irish rider Stephen Halpin won Saturday's mountain stage to Windy Gap, outsprinting King of the Mountains winner Siphine Sowela to the line.
It was the Stena Line-Ireland team's second win, Denis Dunworth having taken the opening prologue last Tuesday. The best Irish finisher was Stephen Halpin in seventh, three minutes 15 seconds back.
Meanwhile, Daniel Martin placed 40th in the European U-23 championships in Limburg yesterday behind winner Benoit Sinner of France.
