Leinster Colleges Senior Football A Championship/ Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar 2-7 St Mel's, Longford 0-7: A splendid goal three minutes from time by Brian Slevin propelled Coláiste Mhuire to victory in a tempestuous first-round qualifier in Cusack Park, Mullingar.

Having dominated the opening quarter, the local students fired over three unanswered points from Conor Lynam before the impressive Thomas Kelly opened St Mel's account.

Slevin stretched Coláiste Mhuire's lead, but from there to the break it was all St Mel's.

But despite sustained pressure the visitors could only manage a brace of points from Kelly and at the interval trailed by just a point.
